Before you start

A cabinet you own, not a wall you leave behind

"Custom entertainment center" can mean two very different things. Knowing which one you want saves weeks of quotes. If you have been shopping for a high-end TV stand or an AV console, you are in the right place: that is exactly what these are.

Built-in wall unit

Part of the house

  • Constructed into the wall on site by a cabinet or closet company
  • Install crew, in-home work and finishing in your room
  • Stays with the house when you move
  • Typically designed around storage and display

What B&A builds

Freestanding furniture

  • Built and finished in our Pennsylvania shop, delivered ready to use
  • No construction in your home, just placement
  • Moves with you, room to room or house to house
  • Designed around the gear: vented bays, removable backs, hidden wheels for access
The designs

Five entertainment cabinets, each made to order

Each one works as a high-end TV stand and a full AV console: the TV goes on top, the receiver, amps and sources go in vented bays below. Pick a starting point, then choose the width, wood, finish and layout. If none of them fits your room or your rack, Brian builds to your dimensions.

Questions

Custom entertainment cabinet FAQ

What is the difference between a custom entertainment cabinet and a built-in entertainment center?

A built-in entertainment center is constructed into the wall on site and stays with the house. A freestanding custom entertainment cabinet is a finished piece of furniture: it is built in the shop, delivered ready to use, and moves with you. B&A Woodworks builds freestanding cabinets. If you are planning a built-in, ask anyway; Brian will tell you plainly whether it is something he can take on.

How much does a custom entertainment cabinet cost?

B&A's five standard designs start at $3,095 and are priced by width, wood and layout. Fully custom sizes and layouts are quoted individually after Brian reviews your equipment and space. Request a quote.

What sizes are B&A entertainment cabinets?

The standard designs run 70 to 84 inches wide and 22 to 26 inches tall, all 22 inches deep overall. Because every cabinet is built to order, other widths and layouts can be built for your room.

Will my receiver or amplifier fit?

Every gear bay is 19.75 inches wide, 16.75 to 20.5 inches tall depending on the model, and 19.5 to 20.5 inches deep. If a component is larger, the bay can be built for it on a custom order. You can check your components against every bay.

How long does it take and how is it delivered?

Lead time from payment to completion is usually 6 to 8 weeks. Cabinets ship crated by LTL freight to most of the continental United States, and white-glove delivery with uncrating and placement is available to most addresses. Details are in ordering, delivery and warranty.

Which woods and finishes are available?

Solid cherry, ash, maple and walnut, in natural, stained and painted finishes. The exact choices depend on the design; the Monarch and Pennington offer 14 wood and finish combinations.

Is an entertainment cabinet the same as an AV console or a high-end TV stand?

Mostly, yes. The names overlap: entertainment cabinet, media console, AV console and high-end TV stand all describe furniture that holds a TV on top and audio and video equipment below. What separates a true AV console from an ordinary TV stand is the inside: gear bays deep and wide enough for full-size components, ventilation, and rear access for wiring. Every B&A cabinet is built that way. See what makes a media console audiophile-friendly.
